Why You Don’t Need More Trainings (Until You Do This)

For far too long, I bought into the notion that when it comes to courses and trainings, I need more — more knowledge, more degrees or certifications, more of that whatever wisdom someone else has.

And as a movement teacher, I haven’t been immune to that same line of thinking.

On one hand, it’s why I teach the way I do – my practice is sourced from different teachers, different methods and different styles of movement from all across the globe.

However, in my opinion, endlessly consuming trainings and regurgitating what we’re taught (or what others are teaching around us) is NOT how we create and hone our signature style.

Nor how we build confidence as teachers, avoid burnout, lessen teaching anxiety, and create a vessel for our budding creativity.

(Though I do believe learning from others is what provides us with vibrant paints to use! Paints to remix and smear on OUR OWN canvas.)

Instead, it’s about taking it all – our knowledge, our wisdom, our learnings, our experiences and expertise – and composting it:

Letting it move through us via practice, patience and play. In its own time, in our own space, through our unique perspectives.

This is how our practice and teachings become EMBODIED.

This is how we find our signature style – one that can evolve right alongside us. On our mat. And in our life.

As Movement Teachers, the opposite of consumption (hello creation and embodiment) starts with us. Solo. Unaccompanied.

As in, not teaching class, not taking class, not hurriedly class-planning. With only the company of what lights us up… and maybe some fun tunes to groove to.

If it’s been a while since you’ve shown up on your mat like this, choose to make an appearance. Squeeze in 10 minutes to roll around on the floor or boogie. To create and embody, rather than consume.

You have it all within you. Set it free.

If you resonate with any of the above (accumulating that stack of certificates and still feeling like you need 'more', seeking external expertise over personal experience, etc.), reach out HERE. Drop me a GIF, an emojis, or feel free to elaborate. You're not alone, my friend.
